Community Playlist - Women Who Rock Edition
Let's all agree that women rock and disagree on which women rock the most.
This is the third community playlist I’m throwing out there and I am all jittery with excitement because this playlist is awesome.
This is how a community playlist works: I’ll spend ages making a playlist that I think is awesome (see previous sentence) and then you all mess about with it - making it not just a playlist that I love but, hopefully, a playlist you all love too. It’s all very simple. Just keep reading.
This month, I wanted to share with you my Women Who Rock playlist. Yes, rocking women should be part of most playlists and they often are - just check out any of my recent and decent playlists. But sometimes we need to feminism it up a bit and give women a stage to themselves. Men get stages all the time.
Even though most of my playlist includes a lot of electric guitars, not all the women on this playlist rock by playing rock. There are, I think, many ways to rock. Some women rock because they are loud, because they talented, because they’re unapologetic, because they’re sticking it to the man, because they have beautiful, powerful voices, or because they’re truly themselves. So I’ve tried to be as diverse as possible within the women-who-rock confines.
Over to you.
It has been so difficult to whittle it down to 50 but that was the challenge I arbitrarily set myself. I am very happy with it but it’s probably lacking a few older artists so that might be the direction the Substack community decide to take it in. Only time will tell.
First up, here’s the playlist:
Now, in the comments section:
Choose a song you want to add.
Choose a song you would want to keep.
Choose a song you want to remove.
In a week’s time, I’ll compile the results, and send the updated playlist back out to you. That way, you will get a playlist made up of 50 of the best women who rock as made by people all over the world.
The more people who collaborate, the better and more representative it’ll be. So let’s go!
See you in a week!
Lots of great acts right here— and pleasantly surprised to see Goat Girl on the list. Twice! I would add anyone from my 5 Texas Guitarists article: https://www.herizonmusic.com/publish/posts/detail/143495745?referrer=%2Fpublish%2Fposts
Add: Within Temptation " Paradise"
Remove: not sure, so many I am not familiar with. Really need to listen to the whole list first. But I guess that was the point.
