March Reviewed
My monthly round-up of albums, songs and gigs.
Hey all. Here’s my little round-up of some great music. And yes, it’s a bit late. But I was busy doing some hiking.
Let me know if there’s an album/song/live act you’d recommend!
Albums I Enjoyed in March
I suspect math-rockers Plantoid might nab the title for my favourite album I enjoyed in March although E L U C I D’s hip hop album is bloody brilliant too. A close one.

Artists I’ve Seen in March
5th March - Congratulations - Voodoo Daddy’s
D.H. Temple
Some interesting funky, harder elements and a few moments of chemistry made this enjoyable. I’m not entirely sure if the lead singer’s corporate rock schtick always landed, and the strained, inaccurate vocals were not for me. But some really good songs nonetheless. ⍟⍟⍟
SNAKEMILK
I love Robin’s vocal strength and guitar wizardry, coupled with pounding, yet technical, drumming. Garage-rock/psychobilly describes the sound pretty well - it’s dirty and it’s raucous. Like Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry fighting over a bottle of whiskey in their pants.⍟⍟⍟⍟
Congratulations
What a stunning band. Leah was an amazing frontwoman - strong in all respects - and whilst the other members could have just let her get on with it, they were equally engaging and talented. Their genre is enjoyably, actively, non-conforming and uncategorisable. Their rhythms and styles span 5 decades worth of sounds, their vocals range from soft to hard as nails and they dance in all the ways possible. Been there. Got the T-Shirt. But I’ll definitely be back for more. ⍟⍟⍟⍟⍟
26/03/26 - Gaza Gig VI - Voodoo Daddy’s
Maya Law
There are plenty of singer songwriters, which is no bad thing if they are this good. What a wonderful voice; she flutters round her original lyrics with ease hitting a wide range of notes with a hypnotising delicacy. It’s quite brave to sing over such sparse electric guitars but she has the talent to pull it off. Transfixing.⍟⍟⍟⍟
Alexander Carson
A stunning variety of genres exhibited in such a short collection of songs, such is the confidence and deep musical understanding. Neo-classical is a catch-all term that doesn’t quite do Alexander’s breadth enough credit. Different keys, moods, and instruments delight, provoke and soothe. There’s something for everyone. ⍟⍟⍟⍟
Magnolia
Only the 6 band members this time. Although 6 is still enough to scream, to pulsate and to enthral. They always put everything out there. It’s urgent, calamitous noise which can still, somehow, make you bounce. ⍟⍟⍟⍟
Kulk
I am so glad I finally caught these two. Sludgey, deathly guitars over pounding, heavy beats. They summon all the dark forces, funnel them into the effects pedals, and spew them out all over the shop. It’s fun, if you consider having your heart shake itself up to your ears fun. Which I do. Smashing stuff. ⍟⍟⍟⍟
Coming Up in April
I just got back from holiday and was going to see Mama Oh No tonight but will have to give it a miss because I’m bloody knackered. Sam Grassie with Uncle Ferg and Nancy Dunnell on Sunday will hopefully make up for it. DJ Yoda in a couple of weeks too. The question is do I go to Bristol for a one day festival or make do with Ipswich? All will be revealed!
Do let me know what you’re up to! Speak soon!
