Recent and Decent #112
Feat. Sorry, Book of Churches, Ulrika Spacek...
Happy Valentines and all that shit. Shall we get on with some music now?
Recent and Decent Playlist (click on pic for Tidal playlist)
Every week, I take it turns with my mate and fellow new-music discoverer, Chris, to share 7 songs. All songs under 1 year old, all bloody decent. This week’s playlist is curated by me and includes some psychedelic Hindustani rock, robotic funk, and breakbeat electronic music.
1-800 GIRLS - eye contact (feat. Council) (01/26)
This is as Valentines as it gets. It’s quite sexy but also dark and interesting and catchy and groovy. But mainly quite sexy. My lovely wife actually suggested this song so that makes this song even more Valentines, I guess. But that’s it. No more Valentines references. We’re done here.
Ulrika Spacek - I Could Just Do It (02/26)
This was an album I blathered on about on my album journal walk last week and I keep going back to it. This is one of the many songs that I love. Alternative rock, I guess, but the synths and the syncopated drums that drop in make it so much more.
Nadeem Din-Gabisi - Enter Claim (08/25)
I talked about his album too. Can you see why? It’s bloody fantastic. It’s a glorious intersection of jazz and hip-hop. Catchy as hell. Get your groove on!
Karma Sheen - Ishq Kalma (10/25)
I fell in love when I caught them live a couple of years ago. Psychedelic Hindustani? Yes please. All the way.
Book of Churches - The Quiet Was A Heron (02/26)
This made it in late but how could I not plop this in. Felix from Divorce has the dreamiest of voices and now he’s cracking on with solo stuff and I’m totally for it. The song, his voice, his face…all gorgeous.
Congratulations - Dr. Doctor (01/26)
This one’s a bit mad. Guitars swoop and splatter everywhere but the injected funkiness makes up for the chaos.
Sorry - Alone In Cologne (02/26)
Sorry have a lot to live up to after their brilliant album last year but they’ve pulled it off. This one has a mixture of timings, voices and sounds. It ramps up and takes off and off we head, together in the sunset, holding hands and slapping our thighs and wiggling our heads.

I did end up going to a gig this week without planning to. I haven’t got tickets booked for any this week but I BET I’ll nip out. Let’s see shall we? You guys got any exciting plans?

I’m glad you didn’t include voting because I loved all the tracks, pretty much equally.
Glad to see Sorry is still as inspired as ever. And that one from the guy from Divorce is sublime. I can’t look back at the post and comment on it, so names are all a jumble.
Agreed on Ulrika Spacek - I really hope to see them live this time around!
