Recent and Decent #124
Feat. Daniela Lalita, Sans Froid, Irked...
I’m still getting over Deerhoof from a couple of days back. What a performance. You know, I think my musical tastes are slowly converging to genre-less music. Or rather, diverging to all the genres. It’s definitely doing something. And it titillates me.
Recent and Decent Playlist (click on pic for Tidal playlist)
Every week, I take it turns with my mate and fellow new-music discoverer, Chris, to share and write about 7 songs. All songs under 1 year old, all decent. This week’s playlist is curated by me and includes some art-rock, hip-hop-jazz, and avant-folk.
Daniela Lalita, Mura Masa - Tiroteo (04/26)
Some Spanish quirkiness. It’s a bit cheeky, a little playful. Efficient jolt of happiness to swing things into gear.
Sans Froid - Go On (04/26)
Earth-shattering vocals do all the work but that’s not to say the instruments aren’t great. I’m not saying that at all so don’t put words into my mouth, you fiend. I’ll be looking forward to seeing them in Norwich soon.
Oskar Witt, Smag På Dig Selv - NÆRVÆR, HÆRVÆRK (01/26)
A little nod to the impending Eurovision, insomuch that he’s Danish. The aggressive hip hop sounds almost Europop insomuch that it’s fun. Then some serious parping sax farts its way half way through and it becomes a big old glorious soup of sounds. I’ll be looking forward to seeing them in Norwich soon.
Irked - Who Asked? (05/26)
Recommended by another noise rock band, The Other Half, this is a cracking bit of female-lead punk. And I do not want to fight with her. She’s got the wrong end of the stick.
tummyache - Fake New (07/25)
It’s a bit Radiohead, certainly, what with the intro that sounds like he’s needs to tune his guitar. But he knows what he’s doing. He’s just playing with us. Hold on to those horses because they’ll be galloping through a dusty metropolis soon enough. I’ll be looking forward to seeing them in Norwich soon.
Water From Your Eyes - Playing Classics (08/25)
What the hell can I say? This was from one of my favourite albums last year. And I’ve shared from it already. And I had other contenders for this week. But it works so well and it’s awesome and I’ve been listening to it a lot again and I want to share it. Listen to it and you’ll see why. You’ll be dancing all over the shop soon enough.
Magda Drozd - Divided By Dusk (01/26)
Some dronal tonal violinal murky sounds ready for your journey into an alternate dimension. I’ll be looking forward to seeing them in Norwich soon.

The Notwist - News from Planet Zombie (03/26)
You can’t win them all. Last week, I listened to about 500 great albums. This week, about 1. Here it is. Slow, patient but thoughtful. A well-constructed album, carefully building into something rather beautiful and friendly.

I don’t know what to say anymore. I just say guff most of the time. So here’s some pointless waffle. I can’t believe you’re reading this paragraph. What a waste of your time. Go and listen to some music or something.
Anyone else got music plans? Or new album recommendations?! Let me know!!
