There are a lot of songs I don't know on your list so I would leave out the Foo Fighters song simply because I'm not a big Foo Fighters fan... I'd add something fun: "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" by Meat Loaf! I'd keep Champagne Supernova because it's the song I'm most familiar with here and it's a big week for Oasis fans!

I don't think you're the only one not loving Foo Fighters! Thanks for the recommendation!

Found this hard as I’m generally the antithesis of this (a song that does all it needs to in under 3 minutes is a thing of beauty imo) I also didn’t know a lot of these tracks and don’t have a spare 7hours just at the minute 😂 so I’ve done some dipping in and out of unfamiliar tracks. I really like a lot of these though and am looking forward to listening at my leisure when it’s finished.

Add: REM - Leave

Remove: Shiverman - Fat Freddy’s Drop

Keep: Muse - Knights of Cydonia (but I will also fight anyone who tries to take out Insomnia!)

A lot of people swooning over Oasis at the moment and you're not having any of it. Love it!

Yes, I'm finding it pretty annoying. Coincidentally had just written a note about this before I saw your reply! (I should say it's more on social media platforms outside of Substack that I'm seeing the endless Oasis feed, though it's happening to an extent here too). I guess I'm just a reunion party pooper.

I have a similar cynical view of reunions!

Add: 'Maggot Brain' - Funkadelic (an emotional roller coaster ride and the greatest guitar solo ever)

Remove: Foo Fighters (not a fan)

Keep: 'One Million, Billionth...'- Flaming Lips (I saw them countless times in the late 80s and early 90s and they would often close the show and completely eviscerate the audience and bar with that song).

Greatest guitar solo ever? Well, this I have to check out!! Many thanks!

Matt, you can read my write-up about 'Maggot Brain' below. But, yes, if you are unfamiliar with the song then you do have to check it out.

If I can give a backup option...

Green Day - Jesus of Suburbia. It's an entire album in a single song, and in concert it is a transcendent experience.

Great shout. Can't do any harm chucking in a backup option. Especially when 3 people wants to get rid of the same song!

All William Onyeabar songs are over 6 minutes and they are all amazing.

Thanks Matt love your posts - I'm not a huge long song fan I think they are self-indulgent on the whole but if you are going to do one then really go for it so I'd add dandy warhols it's a fast driving rave up, clocking in at 16 minutes. Paranoid android is the best on your list imo but I'd vote to keep champagne supernova - not a huge oasis fan but its a good song and should not fall victim to the current anti oasis backlash. Remove foo fighters.

Add " He Would Have Laughed" by Deerhunter.

Keep Sigur Ros. Love "Sæglópur."

Lose "Champagne Supernova."

Great list and theme, Matt!

Add: Your Fake Name Is Good Enough For Me by Iron & Wine (although Trapeze Swinger is certainly the more well known long song of his)

Keep: Starship Trooper by Yes (their long version of Paul Simon's America from around that time is also really good)

Remove: Las Cruces Jail (it's on there twice!)

Add: Coffin For Head of State by Fela Kuti (might not meet the vibe, but I love it)

Remove: Foo Fighters (sorry😬)

Add Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart

Remove Sigur Ros. Just didn't work for me.

Keep Radiohead. Love it or hate it, "Paranoid Android" was a gateway drug between The Bends and Kid A. And that music video was iconic for its time.

I’ve been doing playlists for a vinyl night, and knew I encountered a favorite that was over 6mins (or 2 - sadly Sinead O’Connor’s Drink Before the War is 5 something lol other I would have chosen to add that one!)

Add: Blasphemous Rumors by Depeche Mode

Keep: Oasis
