Oh, I wanted to say that I saw Joe Jackson in concert this past Friday and it was fantastic. He split the show into solo piano (hits) and then the curtain went down and a 12-piece band appeared in full-on 1910 vaudevillian regalia. Tuba, trumpet, flute, bass clarinet, trombone, violin, viola, piano and drums (and I’m forgetting someone). They played his latest album of English music hall songs with great energy and humor, not to mention instrumental mastery. Also, Joe’s exaggerated cockney accent showed that he can essentially write and perform any style of music. His voice was in excellent form, which, after 45 years making music, is beyond impressive.

That is super cool. Sounds like an amazing show (side note: does it become a show when a 12 piece band appear?). Thanks for sharing. I had a cheeky look at his tour dates after that description, and can see he's playing at Cambridge (near me), so cheers!

As to live music, I got to see Bloc Party for the first time on Friday and it was incredible. It might be the best gig I’ve been to this year. Definitely one to tick off the bucket list!

That's so awesome that you got to see them. Especially one day before their Glasto set! They probably had it really polished ready for the big day. Amazing live band.

It was spectacular. I honestly can’t imagine better circumstances to see them in and the set list was huge - 27 songs!

Just did a mini dive into Getdown Services. The name was familiar to me as they are a local band but I haven’t managed to get to a show or even listen to any of their music so thanks for rectifying that!

Gave your first question a lot of thought but to be honest, I’d rather your R&D featured songs I don’t already know. I then get a voyage of discovery!

Cheers Lou, as always. I will keep on trying to search for, and share, new stuff. Speaking of which, I'm looking forward to your post punk playlist today. Lots of bangers in there but a few newbies too, so thanks for that.

I was unfamiliar with the first four bands in your playlist and all four I really dug. Especially Egyptian Blue who reminded me of Gang of Four. And damn you for making me cry to a Coldplay song. You didn’t warn me that Michael J. Fox was going to make an appearance….That was pwerful. It’s no small talent to captivate and unite a crowd of that size and damn if Mr. Martin et al didn’t create magic there.

Yeah, they're all pretty new to me too. Glad you liked them. As for Coldplay, apologies for the tears. I was right there with you though!
